How Did You Decide to Start Photography?

The idea for my first photography project was born by chance during a hike through the Sicilian valleys in August 2020. Armed only with my cell phone, I framed a friend's shoulder tattoo with the landscapes of Pantalica, one of the most famous nature reserves in the Syracuse area and rich in stories and legends.

It was from this initial series of shots in nature that I began to understand how the presence of human beauty made the landscape even more fascinating.

I have always had an innate passion for history and writing. Up until that point, my photography had been limited to a few photos as a starting point for telling a story, especially of small scenes and personal fragments. With my first project, Soulproject, I wanted to shift my focus to others, to the masks we wear, to the depths and fragilities we hide from strangers and that often need to be expressed in words.

Of that first project, only fragments and memories remain today (and perhaps certain criticisms played a role), but I still think that dedicating oneself to a photography project, even as a beginner, is useful for developing new languages, experimenting with creativity in different ways, and finding new inspirations.

Personally, it was my need to seek and see wonder in the places I visit that encouraged me to delve deeper into the technical aspects of photography that I felt I needed to improve to more easily share these emotions with others.
